Random Name Generator โ FAQs
Where do the names come from?
The tool uses built-in lists of forty common male first names, forty common female first names and forty common surnames, all widely used English-language names. A first name and a surname are picked independently at random and paired, so combinations keep feeling fresh. Everything is embedded in the page โ no database, no downloads and no network requests at all.
What can I use random names for?
They are perfect for placeholder text in designs, sample rows in databases and spreadsheets, fictional characters in stories and games, classroom role-play exercises, and anonymised test data in software demos. Because the names are common and realistic, mockups and prototypes look convincingly real without exposing anyone's actual personal information.
Can the same name appear twice in one list?
Yes, occasionally, because each name is picked independently at random from the lists. With 40 surnames and up to 80 first names there are thousands of combinations, so repeats are uncommon in small lists. If you need guaranteed-unique names, generate a larger batch and remove any duplicates before using them.
Is my usage private?
Completely. Name generation happens entirely inside your browser using the same secure random source as the password tools. There is no account, no tracking and no server call, so nobody can see how many names you generated or what you used them for.
