XML Sitemap Generator โ FAQs
What is an XML sitemap?
It is a machine-readable file, usually named sitemap.xml, that lists the important URLs on your website along with optional hints like last-modified date, change frequency and priority. Search engines read it to discover pages they might otherwise miss, which is especially useful for new sites and large sites with deep page structures.
Where do I put sitemap.xml after downloading it?
Upload the file to the root of your website so it is reachable at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml, then submit that address in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. You can also point crawlers at it by adding a Sitemap line to your robots.txt file.
Do I need to include every URL on my site?
Include every page you want indexed โ your homepage, main sections, articles and product pages โ and leave out duplicates, thin pages and admin or login URLs. Quality matters more than quantity: a focused sitemap of real content pages helps crawlers spend their budget on the pages that actually matter.
Is anything I paste uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your URL list is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted, stored or logged anywhere. The generated XML file is created on your own machine when you click download.
