RGB to HSL Converter
Convert RGB values to HSL — and back — instantly, with a live preview of the exact color. Free, fast and private.
The RGB to HSL Converter bridges the two color models designers use most. RGB tells you how much red, green and blue light a color contains, while HSL describes it as hue, saturation and lightness — far more intuitive when you need to make a color darker, lighter or more vivid. Enter values on either side and the tool converts both ways in real time.
How to use the RGB to HSL Converter

RGB to HSL Converter — FAQs
What do hue, saturation and lightness mean?
Hue is the position on the color wheel, measured in degrees from 0 to 360 — 0 is red, 120 is green and 240 is blue. Saturation is how vivid the color is, from 0 percent (gray) to 100 percent (full color). Lightness runs 0 percent (black) through 50 percent (pure color) to 100 percent (white).
Why does converting back sometimes change the numbers slightly?
RGB uses whole numbers while HSL calculations use fractions, so rounding happens in both directions. A value like 75.4 percent saturation becomes 75, and converting back can shift an RGB channel by one. The visible color difference is essentially zero, but the numbers may wobble by a point or two.
When should I use HSL instead of RGB?
Use HSL whenever you are adjusting a color rather than matching an exact one. Darkening a button on hover is trivial in HSL — just lower the lightness — while in RGB you would have to scale three channels by hand. HSL also makes it easy to build harmonious palettes by rotating the hue while keeping saturation and lightness steady.
Is this RGB to HSL converter private?
Completely. All conversion math runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to any server or stored anywhere. There is no signup and no analytics on your inputs — your colors stay on your device, and the tool keeps working even when you are offline.
