Volume Converter — FAQs
Is this the US gallon or the imperial gallon?
This tool uses the US liquid gallon, which equals exactly 3.785411784 liters. The imperial gallon used in the UK is larger at 4.54609 liters. If your recipe or fuel figure comes from a British source, confirm which gallon it means before converting.
How many milliliters are in a US cup?
One US customary cup equals exactly 236.5882365 milliliters. Teaspoons and tablespoons follow the same US definitions: 4.9289 ml and 14.7868 ml respectively. Note that some countries use a 250 ml metric cup, which differs slightly from the US cup used here.
Can I convert fuel quantities for my car?
Yes. Convert gallons to liters for fuel economy figures, or liters to cubic meters for tank capacities. One cubic meter equals 1,000 liters, which is useful for water tanks, swimming pools and bulk liquid storage calculations as well as vehicle fuel numbers.
